The Vernon Davis Foundations’ mission is to make a difference in the lives of children and young adults in our community. Professional athlete and philanthropist Vernon Davis started the endeavor back in 2011 as a way to promote art education and appreciation among the youth. Today the foundation takes a holistic approach, focusing on the overall health, education, and well-being of children with disadvantaged backgrounds. By providing essential resources such as scholarships, grants, learning materials, meals, and clothes, we strive to service and inspire our young leaders of tomorrow.
The Vernon Davis Foundation envisions communities where children are inspired to take their education just as serious as they do athletics and pop culture; communities where disadvantaged students are provided the necessary resources to fulfill their overall needs; and communities where spirits are lifted through new opportunities, empowering the youth to dream big while discovering ways for self-expression and growth.
READ 85 PROGRAM
Read 85 is an extension of the Vernon Davis Foundation. The program is a hands-on engagement to inspire, encourage, and educate students on the importance of reading. Efforts such as speaking to students at school and donating books and scholarships, this program specifically seeks to challenge children to increase their reading habits in hopes to further their knowledge and open a world of opportunity.
From 2011 to date, the foundation has given away 6 scholarships totaling $50,000. In partnership with Vernon Davis’ pre-existing art gallery, Gallery 85, $250,000 was donated to local San Francisco artists. Read 85 raised over 500 new and gently used books for schools in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area reaching 3000 students.
